Why Are You Afraid?" 'Why Are You Afraid?' - Roger Ver debates Nouriel Roubini about Crypto | Shelter Crypto | Shelter Humanity | Charity Token Homeless | Charity Coin
It's not a good idea to start a debate calling everyone in the room "economically inliterate". But that's exactly what Nouriel Roubini, an American economist, did Tuesday in his debate with Roger Ver, Bitcoin.com Executive Chair. This high-energy, 40-minute debate is both entertaining and informative.
The fate of crypto
The discussion, which took place at London’s CC Forum was
informal with loose moderation provided Eric Van der Kleij. It was entitled
"Will Cryptocurrencies fail or succeed?". Nouriel Roubini, an
American economist, refused Ver's offer of free BCH shelter humanity and stated that "These
aren't currencies, so they don't work for me."
The majority of people who work in this area don't have any
knowledge about money, monetary policy, central banking, finance, or financial
institutions. A large percentage of people are financially illiterate.
Roubini claims that cryptocurrencies do not exist as true
currencies. He says "bitcoin" or "any other shit coins" are
"absolutely" not a unit of account, or a means of payment. Roubini
cites the small number of users and volatile prices. Ver counters Roubini's
mantra during the event that cryptocurrencies have lost the most value (when
looking to peak prices), by producing the Y=10,000 note. Ver also details the
inflation that has decimated fiat currencies all over the globe.
Ver retorts:
The piece of paper I hold in my hands today is worth $90, but it
was worth more than $200,000 not that long ago. Is that a stable source of
value?
Roubini defends central bankers by claiming that "there is
low inflation among all advanced economies" and adding, "The idea
that central banks debasing money with high inflation may have been true for
Venezuela or a few other countries but not for most advanced economies."
"Why Are You Afraid?" Ver vs. Roubini, Crypto
Terrorists, Tax Evaders, and Criminals
The debate video's 11:47 mark marks where things really get
going. Roubini raises a voice and declares in a southern baptist preacher-like
tone:
The world's governments cannot allow terrorists, criminals, tax
evaders and crooks money to move... without AML or KYC. You don't care about
them but they'll crack down on you.
Despite his many logical errors throughout the discourse Roubini
finally manages to ask (or at the least to suggest) a pertinent question
regarding regulation of violent crime in the context financial freedom. Ver
however fails to answer Roubini's question about Ver's personal preference.
Roubini repeatedly asks the Bitcoin evangelist if he prefers control over his
funds and the freedom to send them freely. The New York professor shouts it
down every time.
